As parents we try to do the best for our children by making sure they eat a well balanced diet, get enough exercise, feel loved and secure, sleep enough and get a good education. When they are unwell, we do what is necessary to return them to being healthy happy children. But are we paying enough attention to the development of our children’s brains? Do we need special brain training aids or have to use complicated techniques?
The happy answer is as simple as playing games with your children. Expose them to brain games for kids, let them have fun while learning and you, as a parent, have done your job well. Children learn best through play. We all know that a child struggling with a certain subject in school will have no trouble when that lesson is turned into a game.
What are good brain games for kids?
Besides there being literally hundreds of brain games freely available on the internet, you already may have some in your home:
- Chess,
- Tic-tac-toe, Dominoes, Sudoku,
- Board games, Scrabble, Card games, Checkers,
- Puzzles, Mazes, Crosswords,
- Brain teasers,
- Reading a good book.
Using games as an education tool will teach your children to solve problems, develop fine motor skills, fine tune hand-eye coordination, a sense of timing, the principals of cause and effect, math and language skills. The bonus is that they will be having so much fun that the learning aspect will go unnoticed and will be effortless.
The adults can join in the fun while at the same time unobtrusively monitoring to see if there are areas that need special attention.
It is important to incorporate brain games into their daily activities. Research has shown that consistency is the key to get to the full benefits of brain training and will result in long term and lasting abilities.
