Training at home with neurofeedback for anxiety is the easiest and most cost effective way to eliminate anxiety at its source…..the brain!
There is a growing awareness among health care professionals and the general public about neurofeedback and anxiety and how powerful this non-invasive alternative approach is.
Anxiety is the most common Mental Health condition is Australia with approximately 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men suffering from it at some point. Chronic Anxiety in all its forms is a very unpleasant experience, as it can affect you emotionally, mentally and physically. If you are under pressure in any part of your life, it’s made worse by fearful thoughts that can lead to obsessive negative thinking. In turn this undermines your confidence and can prevent you from doing things, or you avoid dealing with issues and shy away from opportunities in life. Either way this affects your life in a negative way and can lead to low self-esteem and even depression. However, brain wave therapy for anxiety can change your life for the better.
[box]“I was battling anxiety and panic attacks for nine months until finally I couldn’t work. I was put on medication but it didn’t help. I felt terrible and totally out of control. After the first session of neurofeedback I felt better. Two weeks later I was back at work and off the medication, a few weeks after that I felt better than ever before.”

The American Academy of Paediatrics in 2013 gave level 1 status to Neurofeedback as a “best support intervention of anxiety on par with medication”.
However, unlike medication there are no side effects with neurofeedback and it actually resolves the problem in the brain causing the anxiety, whereas medication merely manages the symptoms and for many sensitive people it makes it worse in the long term.
Professor Frank Duffy MD, Director of Clinical Neurophysiology at the Children’s Hospital, Boston, USA and Professor of Neurology, Harvard, stated that “EEG Biofeedback should play a major therapeutic role in many areas. If any medication had demonstrated such a wide spectrum of efficacy it would be universally accepted and widely used.”

Chronic anxiety is a combination of factors
It can be a combination of your genetic predisposition, personality and the circumstances of your life. The worst and hardest to help is when you have a genetic predisposition and you had an anxious childhood due to an anxious parent or trauma or abuse. This lowers your resilience so you are affected more negatively by stressful events and take longer to recover. Instead of getting stronger as you deal with these events in life growing with wisdom and confidence you actually become more susceptible and less confident.
Anxiety can also come about from long term stress and/or traumatic events in adulthood or from poor diet, toxins, electromagnetic pollution, hormonal changes or infections. No matter what combination of factors lead to chronic anxiety the issue ultimately lies within your brain. Therefore training your brain is the best long term option to reduce the anxiety patterns in your brain. Neurofeedback is the most powerful and precise form of brain training in a league of its own.
Dr Norman Doidge psychiatrist and author of two best sellers The Brain that Changes Itself and The Brain’s way of Healing now claims that neurofeedback is the unsung hero of neuroplasticity. He states that he sends all his patients for neurofeedback before anything else.
Anxiety is a brain based issue
Powerful emotions like fear are generated by sub-cortical structures that make up the animal brain and are hardwired to protect you from danger that become turned up to full or over activated. As this is the animal brain it is non-verbal, so talk therapy of any kind will not help and at best only manages symptoms unless you are the lucky 20% who have an unusually flexible type of neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to change and heal) that these processes are able to actually change the animal brain activation permanently. This is why self-talk may help to manage but not eliminate anxiety. It’s the same for meditation, brain wave entrainment, self-hypnosis and deep relaxation techniques of all kinds. Anxiety makes all these processes extremely difficult, as most people are so over-aroused (wound up) they can’t meditate or relax.
“After experiencing burn out and severe anxiety I am now strongly committed to looking after myself. I have developed an ability to do mental ‘push ups. Generally I feel more energetic, calm, focused, confident and optimistic. I am enjoying my work and life much more.”

Neurofeedback and anxiety
This is where the precise ability and power of neurofeedback comes in as it a way to directly work with the sub-cortical structures and let your brain do all the work itself without your conscious effort. Therefore there is no learning curve, no skill you have to master and no failure on this level. For those people who have already done alot of talk therapy it will substantially improve your your wellbeing. For those that can’t or don’t want to face talk therapy it can calm you and bring enough clarity that you can do talk therapy more easily and productively. Neurofeedback is actually a very simple process that is based on the fact that the brain manages itself and the body and it does that with constant feedback. Neurofeedback gives the brain very specific real-time feedback about itself, which allows your brain to unstick itself and change its settings, in the case of anxiety it means turning down the activation levels of structures involved in the experience of anxiety and negative thinking.
You experience:
- Being less reactive and emotional
- Not being as easily frightened
- Feeling calmer, happier and in control
- Feeling more confident
- Sleeping deeper and easier
- Having more energy
- Managing stress in your life
- Dealing with issues
- Jumping at opportunities
- Living your life to the fullest
All these positive experiences continue to get stronger as you train, building a momentum until you are anxiety free.
There are many scientific papers about Neurofeedback and anxiety that have been published in peer-reviewed journals. The literature appears to be expanding exponentially on this topic.
